How it works ...
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy – where Neuroscience, modern talking therapy (psychotherapy) and hypnosis work hand in hand.
As a clinical hypnotherapist, I will gently guide you into a hypnotic state, which Research has shown us to naturally achieve on average every seven minutes. It’s a really important state of mind because we take on board new information giving us ability to make changes to the subconscious mind. Let me explain why……….
The subconscious mind is a storage space, holding every belief, memory, skill and experience that is not in your conscious mind. A great example is driving, confirming how the subconscious learns by repetition and not logic.
When we learn to drive, we concentrate on every single manoeuvre, unable to even hold a simple conversation, learning and driving initially with only your conscious mind. A few weeks later, driving becomes a totally natural habit and everything happens automatically.
Your driving memory has been moved from your conscious mind to your subconscious storage, which then works on autopilot, freeing up space in your conscious mind.
This powerful subconscious is also responsible for automatically triggered feelings and emotions, sometimes inappropriate ones we might suddenly experience, when we are faced with a new experience, maybe a presentation or apprehension of a dental procedure or forthcoming exam. All the fear and anxiety feelings that we might experience are launched out of control.
So we understand why we can suffer, now we need to learn how we can make changes, by rewiring our subconscious! We can achieve this rewire through Hypnosis.
What is Hypnosis?
Let me start by saying what hypnotherapy isn’t…..barking like a dog while standing on one leg half dressed!
Hypnosis is a trance-like state, characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination. It is most often compared to daydreaming or ‘losing yourself’ in a good book or fil. During hypnosis, you are fully conscious and focus intently on the subject at hand, to the near exclusion of any other thought. I remember back to my school days, in particular, during maths lessons, forever being ask to stop ‘Dolly Daydreaming’
How it works?
During the initial consultation, I will explain the science behind the workings of the brain and why the original emotional primitive brain can get things muddled, generating inappropriate patterns of behavior such as stress, anger, anxiety and depression.
We will discuss your concerns and aims and then put into action some goals to begin the fixing and re-wiring of the brain. You will be given a CD to play at home as you sleep, it’s really something you look forward to at the end of each day, and so the change begins.
You will leave the initial consultation understanding how hypnotherapy can help you take control and fix your problems. Subsequent sessions then consist of positive psychotherapy followed by trance on the couch. This trance-like deep relaxation is achieved by relaxing your conscious mind, allowing me to make positive beneficial suggestions to your subconscious mind.
